A moulded-plywood development
Fritz Hansen dates Series 7 to 1955. Its development belongs to Jacobsen's work with moulded seating, rather than the later foam-shell approach of Egg and Swan. [1]
The designer archive identifies the 1952 Ant as a technical breakthrough: seat and back were moulded together in plywood. That earlier work provides context for Series 7, but the date of Ant should not automatically become the introduction date of Series 7. [2]
A thin shell made from layers
The manufacturer describes nine layers of pressure-moulded veneer. The layers give a slender seat-and-back shell its strength and flexibility. This is a different construction principle from Wishbone's solid-wood frame and woven seat, even though both are recorded as dining chairs. [1]
A museum record with a different date
MoMA records Chair Series 7 (3107), accession 24.1997.1–2, as circa 1952. Its pair is described as black-lacquered moulded plywood with chrome-plated steel tubing, measuring 76.8 × 45.7 × 50.8 cm each. Those are the museum's specimen data, not the current dimensions in this table. [3]

What this record does not establish
